The Firefighter History of the Maltese Cross?

The Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Order of Saint John, fought against a new weapon, the defenders would toss flammable liquids against warriors that would be set alight, other warriors would run into battlefield to rescue the fellow fighters. Upon their return from the Holyland these “Fire Fighters” wore a distinctive uniform, which included a white eight-pointed cross on their chest, representing the eight Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. The fighters returned to the island of Malta and over time, this symbol became known as the “Maltese Cross”
